Performance and Job Satisfaction associated with flexible working conditions

Introduction

In this blog, we will discuss what flexible work is and how it can benefit employers and employees.

Flexible working conditions can be helpful in increasing the productivity and performance of the workforce. Having a flexible work schedule allows employees to change their work schedule as they see fit.

A common concept for employment is the flexible work arrangement, which includes working from home and flexitime. Many organizations use flexible work arrangements. This study examines how flexitime plans affect organizational citizenship behaviour, job satisfaction, affective commitment, and work engagement, all of which contribute to employee happiness (Sunaryo, S. et al., 2022).

What is flexible working conditions/flexitime?

Flexible time, or flextime, is a work arrangement that gives employees the independence to choose when their workday will begin and end. Flextime presents a chance for workers to better manage their time as they search for a better work-life balance (Kenton, W., 2021).

Flexitime is no longer an uncommon privilege as it has become a lifestyle post-pandemic. The lockdowns which were imposed during the pandemic led many to work from home or on a shift basis according to employee convenience in order to make ends meet.

Benefits of Flexitime

Employees can create their own work schedules at their convenience which will empower individuals to efficiently balance their work and personal commitments. Flexitime work arrangements can increase productivity and performance when the work environment is just right. Employers and employees benefit from flexible work arrangements. Employees can improve their work-life balance and experience fewer absences and stress-related issues, especially working mothers.

Performance

According to Raziq, A. & Maula-Bakhsh, R., (2015) Employees require a work environment that enables them to perform freely without obstacles that can prevent them from realizing their full potential if they are to satisfy organizational standards.

Job Satisfaction

•  What is job satisfaction?

According to Hoppock, R. & Spiegler, S., (1938) Any combination of psychological, physiological,    and environmental factors that lead a person to genuinely state that they are content with their employment are collectively referred to as job satisfaction.

When you start working in an environment that will make you feel at ease, you will be totally satisfied and that will drive you to your full potential.

It's essential to keep in consideration that each employee perceives job satisfaction differently. The factors that make one employee feel good about their employment/environment might not apply to another employee in the same organization under the same circumstances (BasuMallick, 2021).

Conclusion

It is important to have a work environment that will keep you motivated and wanting to complete your tasks to the best of your ability.

  5. I believe that flexible working conditions can be an important factor in employee performance and job satisfaction. Having flexible working hours, remote working opportunities and the ability to take time off for personal matters can help to promote a healthier work-life balance and a more positive attitude towards work. This, in turn, can lead to increased productivity and improved job satisfaction.
