“I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities” – Nelson Mandela (Mandela, 2013).

Equal Employment Opportunity, or EEO as it is more generally known, is the idea that all applicants would be equitably considered for a role and/or work benefits, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, colour, age, socioeconomic background, religion, disability, etc. The goal of EEO is to 'level the playing field' and keep people safe from being subject to racism and bigotry based on qualities that aren't connected to how competent they are for the post.

Equal Employment Opportunity should not be introduced solely to win more customers over to your company. All levels of the organization's structure must be fully committed to effective EEO in order for it to be advantageous to all stakeholders, especially top management (Workfast, 2018).

The benefits of equality in the workplace

An equality strategy can aid in promoting your company to potential candidates and attracting the best individuals to your skilled workforce. Making your case for equality in the open reflects the ethos of your company and shows that you are truly committed to ethical business practices.

According to research published by BeyondBlue, (n.d.), “found 71% of Australian workers say a mentally healthy workplace was important when they were looking for jobs” (Roubler, 2018).

Workplace equality helps unite employees from a variety of backgrounds and brings all viewpoints to the table. This encourages networking both within and between companies, lifts spirits, and creates strong teams that are committed to producing fruitful outcomes for the business. This promotes innovation and helps creativity in problem-solving.

Conclusion

To benefit from diversity and lower possible expenses, it is crucial to adhere to equal employment opportunity rules. EEO helps firms manage workplace diversity in an appropriate way. These procedures significantly and favourably improve the management of diversity.
